As Jess and I have been setting up our proposal, research plan, and the other assignments, we realized that we have a lot of work ahead of us. Nonetheless, we are making fairly good progress on the project. We actually found out that our roommate’s dad worked with some of the fracking companies in our area, so we are setting up a time to meet him and find out what he knows about that side of the conflict. Also, he thinks he may be able to get us an interview with some people who currently work with the fracking companies, as well as possibly get access to one of the sites. This type of information would really help us with our project and we are really hoping that it all works out alright. We plan on typing up part of our website on Tuesday, since we don’t have class. We really need the extra time to work on it, as we are super busy with classes here, too. However, we have been making it work! Upon finding out about a new connection to people (thanks to our lovely roommate) we had to change some of the questions we were going to submit to the IRB. So, we still haven’t gotten 100% clearance from IRB on campus, but we are hoping that this week will change that.

  1. Me and Tyler are having similar set backs. The IRB process is a bit of a road block for us because the sheet we have to fill out has so many detailed questions about our research that we aren’t even sure we have the answers to them. If you find out a way to make the IRB proccess go smoother can you let me know?

  2. It seems like you guys have stumbled across a really good resource/connection! I think you will start to love your project more after you guys get to talk to different people from the industry and go to a site. That really is exciting. Are you guys going to record any of this – audio or video? It might be really cool if they allow you to video when you go out there to have that to put on your website.

I look forward to hearing about your experiences with interviews and what you learn from them. Also you are right about this class time off – I will definitely be using every bit of it!

    Peace & Love,

  3. Hey Claire!

It’s great that you’re making progress in your interviews. I’m glad you guys were able to reach out and get some connections made and I hope that the interview will lead you all to more people that you can talk to about this subject. IRB can be a pain in my personal experience so I hope you get 100% clearance for interviews soon. Keep up the good work!
