Summary

The institution of racism has been woven into the fabric of the American flag for the last 243 years.  This institution of racism has infiltrated and ruined the structure of organic existence of black achievement in all levels of human activities, i.e., Education, Economics, Entertainment, Labor, Law, Politics, Religion, Sex and War. The conflict pertaining to our hair and texture has been an ongoing battle since our slavery confinement in this country.  The state laws that control how we maintain, style and monetize our labor in the beauty industry is now intertwined with law.

The lawsuit brought forward by Cornwell v. Hamilton in the State of California is just one example of the consequences of the hegemony of American culture. The direct attack to destroy our livelihood in a beauty industry, where our techniques are not taught or recognized is evidence that natural hair and Black hair culture is not part of the hegemony fabric.  We must do better across America, to organize state laws so this landmark case can be used to change the Cosmetology and Barbering licensing requirements as it pertains to citizens that still have to challenge the 14th Amendment of 1868 in order to conduct business in this country.
