So Much Progress!

Everyone has made amazing progress on their websites! It’s so great to see all the work that has been put into this course. It took me a while to click through the sites, but here are some things I noticed!

Desegregation in Fredericksburg (Kailee and Alyssa): The first thing I noticed was your introduction page. It was really smart to put your mission statement there. It lets readers know what your site focuses on as soon as they click in. It might be useful to bold important words to make it easier to decide, at first glance, if your site has information the reader wants to know about. You guys have found so much information and you organized it well. I also really like how you tie in history and current events. It emphasizes how important and relevant your conflict is. If you guys cannot change the colors of the sidebar, it might be helpful to have a background image or a solid color/ design background instead to add some color to your site!

Shay’s Rebellion (Anthony and Shane): First off, I love the header image you used! It pulls the website together nicely. One thing I noticed was that your pages are short and to the point, which is great! It makes it easier to read and maintains organization. This is definitely something that Claire and I had struggled with, so it is helpful to see how you guys did it! The only thing I thought could be changed are the parent pages of your drop-down menus. (Such as the “Anti-Government Figures” page.) It might be helpful to add a small summary or image since it can be clicked as a separate page. Overall you guys are doing an amazing job!

Railroaded (Abriana): I really like how your site is organized! I am sorry that the interviews fell through, but you are doing a great job with what you have! I also really like the background image you have on your site. It pulls the color scheme together nicely. For the individual pages, it might be helpful to throw up brief outlines instead of placeholders. That way, you can plan out what you want to say and see how the website fits together. Good luck with everything and keep up the good work!

Keene Pumpkin Fest (Erin and Tyler): I really like how your site is organized by the years. It keeps all your information organized and easy to sort through. I saw that you guys are starting to add captions to your photos, so keep up the good work with that. They really help pull the images together to make a story. I also like how you tell the story of how Pumpkin Fest originated and progressed. I had no idea what Pumpkin Fest was so it is helpful to understand the conflict! I also like how you added the news videos. I think a short summary under each video and with the BBC link would be helpful to give readers an idea of what they are watching or clicking. All in all, your website is well-organized and informative! Good job guys!

Great job everyone!

  1. Hey Jessica!
Thank you so much for your feedback! I think putting important concepts in bold is a great idea and I’ll definitely work on doing that because that will help people find the main ideas of certain pages. I also agree that if we are unable to change the color (Leah is going to try to help us figure it out) that a solid and darker background would make a huge difference in visibility. I posted some feedback on your site on my blog! Hope you have a great week!
