Bumps in the Road

Hey everyone!

I’m not going to lie to you, it hasn’t been the easiest this past week. I got an opportunity to look at the archives of the campus newspapers, and there aren’t any strong leads on how the campus responded to desegregation or the reaction our university had when the first black student enrolled. This was a little bit discouraging as we had hoped to find something about our university’s response. We hope to return to our contact in charge of the university’s special collections to see if she could help us on that aspect. I also got the chance to check out the book that we found linked to that time period in our area that I mentioned earlier. As it turns out, the section focusing on the schools just talks mostly about the biographies of the founders of the schools that were built for African American students before desegregation occurred and not on the actual period of integration and desegregation. With this in mind, we turn back to the archives room and the articles that it contains. Alyssa and I plan to return there on Tuesday and dive deeper into those articles so we’ll be 100% certain of what each page will contain by the time the contract needs to be submitted next weekend. We both strongly desired to meet up the last week or so to get more ground covered, but Alyssa was sick last weekend and I was sick this weekend and the weekends are usually the only times we can physically meet up together. We have our research plan pretty much finished and once we solidify the delegation of tasks between us we will submit it tomorrow night. This project is starting to feel very overwhelming to me. Looking at all the project contract examples help, but they also make me worry a little whether we are including all we need to include and covering all our bases. I just wish we hadn’t had lost that time that we had set aside to get everything gathered and settled the past two weeks, but unfortunately we can’t control when we get sick. We just have to press on and work together to get things done on time. I know in the end we will get it all done and it will be worth it. We just have to take this project one day at a time.
