Slow and Steady

This past week, Claire and I have accomplished a good amount of research! We began working on our site and I played around on WordPress to change the design and layout. After deciding on the design, I made individual pages for each subcategory that we want to focus on. I’m hoping that this will keep our site organized. While Claire worked on the history of fracking, I focused on background information and researched the logistics of fracking. Both pieces are published on our website, though we are still working on a finalized timeline and map for the history tab. We also found out that we have been approved regarding IRB! We will be scheduling interviews with various people this week and moving forward with preparing for our interview with Dr. Guignard on the 16th of October. The goal is to have interviews finished within the next two weeks and update the various tabs on our site after each interview. This is to prevent us from becoming overwhelmed with all of our gathered information at the end of the two-week process. This coming weekend, we will also be visiting various well sites to take pictures. The background photo of our website is a placeholder, so we hope to acquire a picture to replace it. Though this process has been slow-rolling for the past few weeks, we finally have the final product laid out before our eyes. Now we just have to work through the next couple of weeks and put all the pieces together!

  1. Hey Jessica!

You guys have already made great progress on your website, which is great to hear! It seems like you guys are dividing the work evenly and working great as a team. Congratulations on your IRB approval! It will open a whole other door of opportunity for your website as the individual experiences and opinions will add a personal touch to the issue of fracking and the positions different stakeholders hold and how they clash. Hope your visit to the wells go well and that you get a first hand look at how fracking is set up and get great pictures too! It seems like you guys are rolling along smoothly and I can’t wait to see the finished product. Good luck!

  2. I’m glad that your project is starting to get moving. I also am working on how to organize the WordPress site. I worked with my campuses technology intern and she gave me some background on how to organize the categories. It still is a little challenging figuring out how to get certain pages to be organized under a category. If you find a simple way to do this could you share it with me?
Keep up the good work! I’m excited to see your end result.

    1. Hi Erin!

I’m not entirely sure how to add pages to categories. Do you mean the tabs on the website? With the layout we selected, every new page we add gets a title and then added to the toolbar on our webpage automatically. Then you can add different posts and media on each individual page. We figured that using one page per “topic” would keep our website better organized and easier to navigate!

  3. Do you mean a drop-down menu? It took me a few hours to figure that out on our course site, but it’s actually really easy once you know where to go. We’ll go over that in class tomorrow!
