Week Ten

This week has been very busy for both me and Kailee, so we are going to make up some ground on our project. We for sure have a lot of information that we have gathered, so the plan for the next week is to consolidate the to the main points and analysis. We have our part divided by pages, so I will work on a few of them this weekend. I will work on the lunch counter sit-ins one, and the student perspectives page.

Another main thing I am doing this weekend is actually making the website. We are doing things backwards from the other groups by doing the research all first, and then making the website. We are using the theme “Sparkling”, and so we would be able to have a sidebar. I do have a question about how to change the font color of the sidebar menu with the pages because the color is too light. I was trying to find the color change in the customize menu, but I could not find it. I tried several things like having the sidebar on either side, or to maybe have it on top. It looked best when it was on the left side. I made the “Timeline” page as the static page. We have decided to still use the title ““If God is For Us, Who Can Be Against Us”  as the website’s title. We do not have permission for the photo, but it still is a powerful title. It is still very though-provoking, and so we will be able to create a mood just from that title.

For this week the biggest struggle for me and Kailee was trying to meet up with each other. Besides meeting up for class our schedules are opposite from each other. We were not able to meet up because we both had work and big projects in other classes. I think communication went really well because she helped me be accountable in getting the work done. I was able to finish my part by Wednesday night, so it was cutting it pretty close. I think that now we will have a foundation of information we will have a better sense of what we need to put on the website.

The other problem we had is trying to take more pictures for our website. We were not able to this week, so we are planning to do it sometime in the next two weeks when our schedule allows us to. I think we have a better bearing of where we cant obtain and take more pictures for a better visual appeal to our website. The website will finally be made, and we are ready for that to get going!

  1. Hi Alyssa,
Some of the website designs have a plug in that you have to activate to get the full range of customizing options, like changing the color, but it doesn’t look like Sparkling is one of those themes. If you google tutorials for using your theme, it can walk you through how to make some of those changes. This one appears to be pretty useful: https://colorlib.com/wp/support/sparkling/

Hope that helps, and let me know if it doesn’t work for you!
