Week Nine

Hello everyone,

Things are looking up for me and Kailee. We were in a rut because of not being able to have permission to use photos from our local newspaper, but we were referred to a professor here on campus from Dr. Wallace and Dr. Welch. We talked to the professor who is part of COPLAC and has a lot of knowledge on digital history classes. When we talked to him we realized we have a lot more options to find visuals than we realized. We went before to our local library and the archive center here in Fredericksburg.

We will look into the Fredericksburg Museum and the the Fredericksburg Department of Tourism, and look up the specific people that were involved. He knew of the dead end asking the Free Lance Star for use of their photos. It was nice meeting in person with him to get tips on how to get more information. He said to look for creative and different ways to find information. We told him we were going to take pictures of the high schools that were mentioned in our research, so we do not have to worry about copyright issues. We could possibly look up schools, law suits, and arrest records to find more public information for our website.

He also mentioned we can look more into what our school has related to the story. We could not find anything in particular, but we will look again to make sure. We also will check with our school’s archives, since we have a direction we want to go in with our website to maybe find more specific information. There are University scrapbooks that students have made with different articles and artifacts starting in the 60s. We may look into that to see if there is anything we can use.

After that productive meeting we were able to separate the articles in which pages we were doing for the website, and we will work on it this upcoming week to make sure it is all finalized. We were able to find different perspectives, and so that was exciting. We are on a better track now!

Have a good week everyone!

  1. I am happy that things are looking up for you guys! It’s always helpful to get different perspectives, so I’m glad that it worked out that you can find pictures you can use from different sources! I feel like the scrapbooks would be really helpful! Even if you cannot use the pictures from the scrapbook, they could help you get ideas for what to do for your website! Good luck with everything!

  2. We’re so glad that your meeting with Dr. McClurken was productive and that you have new avenues to explore for visual materials!
