Milestone #1 for Alyssa and I was to gather all research materials and we have reached that goal for the most part. We have gone to all the available locations to access the information for our website and have obtained photocopies of all the resources and articles regarding our topic. The only setback we’ve encountered so far related to our project and specifically milestone #1 is waiting on the gaining permission to use the photos from our local newspaper The Free Lance Star. We have sent out an email and we have brought to the attention of the professors, so now we wait. We hope to receive a response back soon and have our campus representative that was mentioned in the previous class to contact the managing editor to see if he can convince her to grant us permission. Once granted permission, the next challenge that I could potentially see us having to address is how to get the photos in digital format without sacrificing their quality. We are hoping that when the managing editor gives us the go ahead we can ask her if there are any of the original papers stored at the newspaper’s office in the archives. Overall, waiting on approval of photos doesn’t impact our project goals that much. We can still work towards getting the information organized for our website and gathering all the dates for our timeline without the photos. It may become a problem towards the end of our project if permission is never granted in regards to the visual aspect of our site. It is reassuring that we have mostly met our first milestone and that we are on track to completing our other goals coming up as well. Until the pictures get approved, we keep pressing on hopeful and excited.
