A Punch in the Gut Hurts….

Hey everyone,

As you all could tell from our class on Thursday, our week hasn’t gone the best. We lost all the pictures for our project as The Free Lance Star keeps a tight fist on them. As we were extremely optimistic that we would gain access, the news was very upsetting and a huge blow to our project site. Thankfully we can still cite the information presented in the articles, but the visual element is completely totaled. Since I was already having a tough week personally, this affected me a lot. With my life being constantly hectic and stressful, this definitely didn’t help at all. With that being said, after talking and discussing with Dr. Wallace and with our fall break happening this weekend, we decided we are at a good point in our project and decided to take a few days to distance ourselves and think of a way to bounce back from this. This break came at a fortunate time as I have also developed a cold over the weekend and haven’t been productive as usual, probably due to the lack of sleep and stress i’ve been having. Thankfully Dr. Welch is supposed to get us in contact with Dr. Mcclurken sometime soon since he is on our campus and has gone through this before with past COPLAC students at UMW in regards to The Free Lance Star and hopefully he can help us in finding pictures that aren’t linked to them that we can gain permission for. Alyssa and I plan to meet up once both of us get back on campus to work on our next goal, which is to organize the articles based on what pages they relate to and to begin our analysis of the research materials. We plan to make a google doc that we can put our analysis on and where we can put important dates to help us in developing our timeline soon. Hoping we can move past this past week and continue to grow our project. Once you hit rock bottom, the only way you can go is up right? Let’s hope so.

  1. I totally understand how it feels to have a great handle on things only to watch them fall. I’m so sorry that you got hit with this news, but like you said it might have come at a good time- sounds like you really need a break. Jess and I had an issue like this a few weeks ago, so we just focused on other things that whole weekend to try to get our heads back together. I know it’s hard, but it may work out in your favor. Who knows what you might find next! Good luck with everything!

  2. That’s a real bummer for sure, but keep a positive outlook on things, some times you find something great without expecting it.
